They built a life together.
We grew up with rugs.
He ran the shop. She made rugs for family weddings. Between them, rugs became both a livelihood and a way to care for the people they loved. We grew up inside that partnership. Vorug carries it into another generation.

Before Vorug,
there was Grandpa’s shop.
He opened it in the Marrakech medina. Years later, we spent time there as children with our older sister. We knew the rug trade through a person we loved, before we knew it as work we might do ourselves.

Grandma’s rugs
were wedding gifts.
She made them for family weddings. Her daughters continued the craft, carrying the skill into another generation of women.
These rugs began with someone in mind: a gift for a new household, made by a member of the family. That care for the person who would live with the rug is something we want to carry forward.

We were next in line.
We had ideas of our own.
From childhood, our family saw us as the generation that would take the work forward. We grew up knowing there was a place for us in this story—and that we could add something of our own.
Our contribution would be contemporary designs: new ideas in color, pattern and proportion, with care for the craft behind them. Vorug was our way of taking that next step together.

Starting Vorug meant
more than selling rugs.
We wanted to take responsibility for what we put our name on. That meant thinking beyond the central pattern to the color, proportions, surface and finishing.
A pattern has to work at the scale of a room. Color changes with the texture and the light. The border and fringe change the shape of the whole piece. These are the decisions we wanted to spend our time on.
